At DEKS, we believe in the power of diversity and the richness it brings to our workplace. We strive to create an environment where employees from different cultures feel welcomed and valued. Recently, we had an exciting event that highlighted our commitment to embracing various cultures and making our team feel like they’re part of one big family.
After a significant gap, we finally celebrated another international food day, and this time we chose to focus on Croatian cuisine and traditions. With the invaluable assistance of one of our team member hailing from Croatia, we organized a splendid Croatian barbecue spit and offered a variety of authentic Croatian dishes, like Rakija and Kiflice. Rakija, a fruit brandy enjoyed in Croatia and neighboring countries. Its distinct flavors and smooth finish made it a hit among our adventurous team members. We also delighted in sampling Kiflice, delightful little crescent-shaped pastries often filled with cheese or jam, and pita, a savory pie filled with a variety of ingredients like meat, cheese, or vegetables. The irresistible scent of sizzling grilled meat wafted through the air, captivating everyone’s senses and encouraging them to gather for an exhilarating culinary expedition.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the Croatian barbecue spit, a traditional method of cooking that involves slow-roasting a lamb and some chicken on a rotating spit over an open flame. The process requires patience and skill, resulting in tender, succulent meat that melts in your mouth. Our Croatian team member’s family joined the festivities, adding an extra layer of authenticity and warmth to the event.
The International Food Day was a resounding success. It allowed us to explore the flavors and traditions of Croatia, broadening our horizons and deepening our understanding of different cultures.
In the future, our intention is to host a series of additional food day celebrations, with each event highlighting a distinct culture represented by our diverse team. These forthcoming festivities will serve as a platform for our team to proudly exhibit their cultural heritage and offer their cherished cuisine to their colleagues. It will be an excellent opportunity to foster camaraderie while indulging in a diverse array of flavors and traditions from around the world.
